TOP 3 TIPS FOR REINFORCING SELF CONFIDENCE

Have you noticed a shift in your child’s self confidence? Children build confidence over time through their personal experiences, as well as through what they hear and observe from others. Here are a few simple ways you can support your child in building confidence in themselves.

  1. CELEBRATE WINS- Whether your child accomplishes a major goal or completes a simple task, take a moment to acknowledge or celebrate it! Don’t hold praise for major achievements only; recognizing the little things they do well goes a long way to creating soaring self confidence.

  2. TEACH THEM THAT MISTAKES ARE OK- Making mistakes are a necessary part of life and provide opportunities to learn. When your child makes a mistake, try turning it into a moment they can use to reflect on what they might do differently next time and what choices they might make to get the outcome they desired. Be cognizant of how you manage your mistakes as well. If you tend to get down on yourself, blame others, get upset etc., your child may mirror your behavior.try turning mistakes into teachable moments for yourself as well!

  3. ENCOURAGE STRETCHING OUTSIDE OF THEIR COMFORT ZONES- Each time we try something new our comfort zone and confidence levels expand. If you see your child shying away from new experiences, have them take small steps to slowly increase their comfort zone. Once they realize they actually can do more or the thing they were afraid of wasn’t so scary after all, they will gain the confidence they need to step out of their comfort zones more often.
